Gills youngster signs professional contract

Gillingham FC second year scholar, Alex Brown, 18, has been handed a professional contract by the League Two club. Meetings between the club's coaching staff took place last week to discuss the futures of eight youth players coming to the end of their two-year stay at Priestfield.

The talented central midfielder was today told by the club he would join the first team for pre-season training this summer.

The youngster has been handed a one year contract, which could be extended if the player makes a good impression. Brown said: "I feel amazing and can't wait for next year now. I now have a year's contract to prove I can play at that level."

Contracts were also given to goalkeeper Daren Hawkes, defenders Jack Evans and Callum Davies, and midfielder Tom Brunt.
