Time up for Rio?

Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand, is reportedly "very upset" after hearing manager Fabio Capello may strip him of his England captaincy and hand it to teammate John Terry. Adding fuel to the fire, he was allegedly snubbed by the Italian, and his assistant Franco Baldini at United's Champions League game last night.

It is almost like the ending of a typical teenage romance. When the girl tries to slowly let down her boyfriend without hurting his feelings. Ignoring his calls, texts and emails. Hearing all this news, has led me to think Ferdinand may be facing bigger issues. Has he never considered the possibility of losing his first team place as well?

Ferdinand, 32, is a fantastic defender of course, but is he our best option? I'm not so sure. Capello has already partnered Michael Dawson and John Terry in the past, and they have worked very well together. So surely Dawson is in contention? While Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka and even Chris Smalling have all proved they are top defenders.

After an impressive 80 caps spanning from 1997, is Ferdinand's time as our first choice defender coming to an end? I may be wrong, but I think he may have to pull up his socks and work very hard, or face losing everything.
